— The Florida Medical Association (FMA) applauded the Florida House’s
passage of the FMA’s priority medical liability reform bill, HB 827:
“On
behalf of our 20,000 physician members across the state, the FMA commends the
Florida House for joining the Senate in passing this critical piece of
legislation, which represents a major victory for medicine in Florida,” said
Vincent DeGennaro, MD, FMA President. “For years, we have fought to
correct unfair imbalances in the tort system that are hostile to doctors. The
passage of HB 827 isn’t just a victory for physicians. Making our state a
friendlier place to practice medicine attracts more doctors to Florida, which
increases Florida patients’ access to care.”
“We
thank our House sponsor, Rep. Matt Gaetz, for championing these essential
medical liability reforms,” said FMA Executive Vice President Timothy J.
Stapleton. “We are also grateful to our sponsor in the Senate, Sen. Tom Lee,
and the leadership of both Senate President Don Gaetz and House Speaker Will
Weatherford. We look forward to Governor Scott signing HB 827 into
law.”
